What to Ask Your AMS Vendor About Their Roadmap

Buyers ask about features. Far fewer ask where the product is going. That second question tells you more about the next five years than any feature list will.

Ask these seven, and pay attention to how readily they get answered.

1. What shipped in the last twelve months? Specific releases, not themes. A vendor investing in a product can name things. Vague answers are informative.

2. What is planned for the next twelve to twenty-four months? You are not asking for guarantees. You are asking whether a plan exists and whether they will share it.

3. How do you decide what to build? Listen for whether customers influence priorities, and how. Advisory groups, user research, feature voting. A vendor with no answer is building for someone other than you.

4. Can I talk to a customer who requested something you built? This is the follow-up that separates a real process from a talking point.

5. How do you communicate major changes? Notice period, release notes, training. You want to know what a significant platform change feels like from the customer side.

6. How does this product fit your broader portfolio? Most vendors offer more than one product. Understanding where yours sits, and who it is built for, tells you whether you are a core audience or an edge case.

7. What are you not planning to build? The most revealing question of the seven. A vendor who will name their boundaries is telling you where to look elsewhere, which is far more useful than a promise to consider everything.

What the answers tell you. Confidence matters more than content here. A vendor comfortable discussing the roadmap is one who expects to be around to deliver it.

Hesitation is not proof of a problem. It is a reason to ask a second question.

Write the answers down during evaluation. When you compare vendors later, these notes will differentiate them more sharply than the feature matrix will.

At GrowthZone, we would rather you ask these questions than assume. If you want to know where our platform is headed, ask us and we will tell you.
